ShopCare has partnered with the AA to develop a resource guide to help your business have a clear view of the associated risks relating to light passenger driver safety.
Knowing which activities in your business have the greatest potential of harming your people, and understanding if these risks are well controlled, is pivotal to creating a safer workplace.
The purpose of this guide is to provide a resource to help businesses better identify, intervene and manage their driver safety as a critical risk.

Critical Risk Sharing Session
ShopCare hosted a sharing session on critical risks and controls, on Zoom.
Participants shared and learned from each other, focussing on what the problem was, how the business solved it and what the outcome was. No matter how big or small the issue all contributions were valuable.

Critical Risks account for the highest percentage of the most severe injuries and fatalities in the New Zealand workplace.
We are currently working on a project to identify causes of critical risk and to share solutions with industry.

Positioning ShopCare for Growth and Impact
ShopCare was established in July 2019 as a health and safety sector group supporting retail and it’s supply chain. It has progressed well through the establishment and development phase under the leadership of Liz May and with the support of the NZ Food and Grocery Council (FGC).
ShopCare is now ready to move to its next natural growth phase, both in span of influence and delivery of activities/interventions.

Health and Safety reform
There are some important proposed reforms to the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 that relate to plant (e.g, machines, vehicles and equipment) and structures (e.g. scaffolding and excavations) which are designed to provide greater clarity around rules and regulations allowing businesses to manage their risks better and keep people safer and healthier. These changes are as a result of a public consultation during 2019 and a draft of the new regulations are anticipated to be in place by 2022 allowing businesses time to prepare.

Workplace Injury Prevention Grants Awarded
Workplace Injury Prevention (WIP) Grants provide funding to agents of change to solve workplace health and safety challenges. Four organisations are being awarded a total of $2.9m to deliver interventions that will help reduce injuries in the workplace.
This is the third funding round of the Workplace Injury Prevention (WIP) grants since it launched in February 2019.
